For the first time in athletics history, a city in China is part of the highest level in Track & Field. Shanghai has proven itself the last 5 years with a top quality athletics show and is rewarded with the Diamond League status.
Shanghai literally means the city by the sea and is situated on the west shore of the Pacific Ocean. The city is divided into two parts by the Huangpu River: Puxi (west of the Huangpu River) and Pudong (east of the Huangpu River). Puxi is the older part of the city and hosts the majority of shops, restaurants and museums. Pudong is the modern part, and is recognized for its rather unusual yet extremely impressive high-rises such as Shanghai's tallest buildings, the Shanghai International Financial Center, Jinmao Building and the Oriental Pearl TV Tower.
The competition in Shanghai is famous as it is well organised, with outstanding facilities and very friendly people. Homestar Liu Xiang makes sure the 110m Hurdles is the highlight of the meeting every year. Experience the unique Asian atmosphere yourself and come on May 23th to beautiful and surprising China!
